Away We Go

This film was completely lovely from start to finish. The women totally stole the show, too. Maya Rudolph, Catherine O'Hara, Allison Janney, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Carmen Ejogo, and Melanie Lynskey were fantastic.

I don't want to spoil anything, but there's this scene -- with Verona and Burt (Maya Rudolph and John Krasinski) lying on a trampoline under the stars making promises to each other about how they will raise their soon-to-be-born daughter -- that made tears just roll down my cheeks.

SEE THIS MOVIE. And check out Melissa Silverstein's interview with Maya Rudolph about the film at Women & Hollywood.

Well, you won't be disappointed. He is so freakin' lovable in it. And even though they don't look alike at all, his character's personality reminded me so much of Dan I couldn't stop smiling throughout the whole damn movie.

Well, it's only a cute scene because the baby isn't born yet. And the things they're talking about aren't baby-related, but raising-a-girl-in-a-feminist-way-related, which I'm totally allowed to be sappy about.

It was really fantastic. I expected to be offended by Gyllenhaal's portrayal of super-liberal mothering, but I was laughed my butt off.

The whole thing was start to finish beautiful and hilarious.

I know! She was so hilarious.

She was impossible to take seriously, especially since she couldn't remember the name of The Second Sex when she quoted from it. Some college professor.
