Fun with Stretch Marks

I wish I could say I am as accepting of my stretch marks as TR is of hers (one of the many body issues I would love to rid myself of), but I WILL agree with her that they're kind of fun to touch. I have this one just below my stomach that's tiny, but super deep, and I'm so fascinated by its existence that I wouldn't be surprised if I've made it even deeper by how much I touch it when I'm by myself.

I mostly just wish the ones in my side-fat-folds and on the sides of my boobs didn't itch so damn much.

Seriously, though. TR's post is great. Read the whole thing at The Rotund.

I love that you're completely misleading your readers into thinking you actually have any side fat.

I'm also a little bothered knowing that all of your down time is spent touching yourself in strange, strange ways.

Love 'em or hate 'em, stretch marks are an immediate identifier. When I saw my LJ friend Nicole for the first time, she had already lost 80-some pounds, but I noticed upper arm stretch marks in one of her photos and wondered, "Did she used to be fat?" Funny how a crooked nose can be charming, but stretch marks are always ugly to me.

Remind me the next time you're in town, and I'll let you touch it.

It sucks that stretch marks are considered ugly, though. Don't you think we can reframe them as awesome?

I know that some skinny people have them, too, but stretch marks are a sign to me of someone unable to control his or her eating habits. Meh.

Or ladies who have been pregnant. But I know how you feel about them, so I won't bother trying to use them as an example.

What about boob stretch marks? We don't have all that much control over how much those grow or whether or not our skin is ready to accommodate them when they come in.

If you hadn't been so busy PULLING ON THEM for hours before bed each night to stretch them out as a kid, you wouldn't have that problem, NOW WOULD YOU?

This is absurd! its obvious that you don't realise that stretch marks can occur for many different reasons, stretch marks tell stories and i fink they're beautiful, people shouldn't feel ashamed because they have stretch marks, especially ones through pregancy, because they earned those stripes.
